Santa Anita – 9th race – Lieutenant Colonel (5/2)
Returns to a much more favorable distance today after failing to see out the 12-furlong trip in the Tokyo City Stakes last month, and should regain his winning form in the Californian at a mile and one-eighth. The Jerry Hollendorfer-trained gelding continues to show his sharpness in morning drills, catches a field without much early pace, and looks very capable of taking full advantage of a front-running trip that is his for the asking. At 5/2 on the morning line he’s a straight play and rolling exotic single.
