Pimlico – 4th race – Sazerac Girl (3-1)
Been waiting for this daughter of E Dubai to be given a chance around two turns and she finally has the opportunity to stretch out in this maiden special weight affair for fillies and mares and a mile and one-sixteenth on turf. All three of her turf sprints have been solid and give every indication that she’ll stretch out successfully, and in this modest affair the Ann Merryman-trained four year old should have no excuses. At 3-1 on the morning line she’s a straight play and rolling exotic single.
Churchill Downs – 2-Res Ipsa (6-1)
Lightly-raced and rapidly improving daughter of English Channel earned a career top speed figure in breaking her maiden over this course on Kentucky Derby and seems set to produce another forward move while taking the required step up in class to first-level allowance competition. What was especially impressive was in victory the Ian Wilkes-trained sophomore never was able to get any cover and was forced to race at least 3-wide throughout, yet still came away to win with plenty in hand. Let’s take her right back and hope to get close to her generous morning line odds of 6-1 both as a straight play and as a rolling exotic single.
