Pimlico – 8th race – 1-Elegant Supermodel-Ger (5/2)
Makes her U.S. debut in the Stormy Blues Stakes, a five furlong turf sprint for sophomore fillies, and based on her European form she completely outclasses her rivals. Won her first two outings very impressively as a juvenile in the French provinces and then was taken to Royal Ascot, where she performed admirably when third of 18 in the Albany Stakes-G3 after striking the front close home. If she approaches that form in this five furlong sprint the daughter of Lope de Vega should be home free. At 5/2 on the morning line she’s a straight play and rolling exotic single.
Churchill Downs – 10th race – 4-Union Jackson (3-1)
Rapidly improving 4-year-old sprinter gets a bit of a class test in Aristides S.-G3, his first stakes appearance, but we’ll be gambling that the son of Curlin will be able to continue his winning ways. Was visually quite impressive capturing a strong allowance race at Keeneland in mid-April in his most recent appearance and has trained superbly since for Steve Asmussen. He’s plenty quick but can stalk and pounce if the situation dictates, so Santana, who knows him well, can size up the situation before making his move. There’s plenty of value here at 3-1 on the morning line if you can get it.
