DEL MAR SPOTLIGHT RACES:

Second Race: Post: 1:30 PT
Top Pick: 1-Ole Silver (3-1)

Returns to her preferred surface (dirt) and projects as the controlling speed (her favorite trip) in this mile allowance optional claimer for fillies and mares, so we’re expecting the Phil D’Amato-trained mare to return to winning form. She’s also reunited with her favorite pilot Jessica Pyfer and shows a strong, steady series of workouts to have her primed for top performance over a track she’s won on in the past. At 3-1 on the morning line, she represents good wagering value in the win pool and in the various rolling exotics.

Eighth Race – Post: 4:40 PT
Top Pick: 4-Perfectible Lady (5/2)

Really liked the way this filly won her first local start with a career top speed figure after arriving from Florida and the way this daughter of Overanalyze has trained since that win leads up to believe that she can come back and score against despite the class hike to starter’s allowance company. She is most effective when held up early and produced late, and excellent turf rider Hector Berrios, who knows her well, can be expected to employ the proper strategy. At 5/2 on the morning line we’ll make her a confident play in the win pool and a single in our rolling exotic angle.

DEL MAR WORKOUT ANALYSIS AND COMMENTARY:

FIRST RACE:

Written Dance (August 26, Del Mar, 6f, 1:13h). Grade: B
In blinkers, nice work inside Mister Iceman (6f, 1:13.1h), always going the better of the two without need of urging, final five furlongs in :24.1, :48.2 and 1:01.1 while traveling out to the seven furlong pole and drawing clear in the final stages. Plenty fit and should be live vs. high priced maiden claimers for P. Miller.

SIXTH RACE:

Don’t Ju Forget (August 29, Del Mar, 5f, 1:01h). Grade: B
No blinkers, broke off a couple of lengths in front of She’s Bulletproof (5f, 1:00.3h) and held that one off in the final furlong while under a nice hold late, quite sharp for P. Miller, final three furlongs in :36 flat. Should be hard to beat with a drop into the maiden claiming ranks and the return to a dirt sprint.

EIGHTH RACE:

Perfectible Lady (August 25, Del Mar, 5f, 1:00.3h). Grade: B+
Strong solo five furlong main track drill, mild coaxing only while traveling out to the seven furlong pole, splits of :24 flat, :47.3 and :59.4 on our watches, faster than given and with plenty left at the end. Looks set for another major effort in starters allowance company.

TENTH RACE:

Handy Dandy (August 25, Del Mar, 5f, 1:04h TC DU). Grade: B
Broke off a few lengths behind Castleknock (5f, 1:04.4h TC DU) and after going slowly was asked to finish and responded to gobble up his workmate close home looking fit and ready for P. Miller. Been unlucky lately – he’s been beaten less than a length without winning in each of his last five starts – but is always dangerous with his good closing kick.
